Check-ups & Cleaning

Prevention is the best dentistry. A six-monthly check-up and clean is the simplest way to keep your smile healthy and avoid bigger problems later.

About Check-ups & Cleaning

A comprehensive check-up is the foundation of lifelong oral health. During your visit we examine every tooth, your gums, bite and soft tissues, and take any necessary digital X-rays to spot decay, cracks or infection long before they cause pain. Early detection means smaller, gentler and more affordable treatment.

Your professional clean removes the hardened plaque (calculus or tartar) that brushing and flossing simply cannot reach. We finish with a polish and, where appropriate, a fluoride application to strengthen enamel — leaving your teeth feeling smooth, fresh and protected.

What to expect

We'll explain everything at each stage, so you always know what's happening and feel comfortable throughout.

  1. 01

    Comprehensive examination

We review your medical and dental history, then assess your teeth, gums, bite and soft tissues.

  2. 02

    Digital X-rays (as needed)

Low-radiation images reveal hidden decay, bone levels and anything developing below the surface.

  3. 03

    Scale, clean & polish

We gently remove plaque and tartar, then polish to a smooth finish and apply fluoride if indicated.

  4. 04

    Personalised plan

We explain what we found, answer your questions and agree on any next steps and your recall interval.

Is it right for you?

Check-ups and cleans are recommended for everyone, usually every six months. If you have gum disease, a dry mouth, or a high risk of decay we may suggest more frequent visits to keep things on track.

Recovery & aftercare

Your teeth may feel a little sensitive for a day after a deep clean — this settles quickly. Keep up twice-daily brushing and daily flossing, and we'll see you at your next recall.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I have a dental check-up?expand_more

For most people every six months is ideal, but we tailor your recall interval to your individual risk of decay and gum disease.

Is a scale and clean painful?expand_more

It is generally comfortable. If you have sensitive teeth or significant build-up, we can use topical numbing and work gently to keep you at ease.

Do you offer health-fund rebates for check-ups?expand_more

Yes. We can process most private health-fund rebates on the spot, so you only pay any gap. Bring your card to your appointment.

What if you find a problem?expand_more

We'll explain it clearly, show you the X-rays or images, and discuss your options and costs before doing any treatment — there's never any pressure.
